The suitable Phylion SF-03 bicycle battery

Check in 3 steps whether the offered battery is suitable for use on your bicycle:

STEP 1: Check the building form
There are 2 similar forms of this type of battery. If the shape of your current battery is similar to that of the battery with the green check mark in the picture, then this battery in terms of construction is the right one. → now go to step 2.

STEP 2: Check the voltage of the battery (36- or 48-volt)
This model comes mainly in 36 volts, but also occurs in 48 volts. The 36- and 48-volt variants are NOT interchangeable. If your current battery has a voltage (DC) of 36 volts, it matches that of the offered battery. → now go to step 3.

Note: The number of amps is not relevant to the operation of the bicycle battery, it is only an indication of capacity, of how long the battery can provide power on 1 full charge. Here the 14.5 Ah gives 65% more energy than the (older) model with 8.8 Ah and also over 30% more than the model with 11 Ah).

STEP 3: Standard or smart BMS (battery management system)
The BMS serves to protect the battery and, in the case of a smart BMS, can communicate to the bicycle what the remaining battery capacity is. A piece of additional intelligence records how much energy the battery has supplied and how much remains. The bike translates this information to an indication on the display while on more expensive bikes this information can also be used, for example, to determine the remaining range. With the standard BMS, the bike determines the remaining battery capacity based on the gradient in voltage between the battery terminals. The emptier the battery the lower the voltage between the terminals (full battery about 42 volts, an empty one about 30 volts). This is less accurate than the smart method. Smart BMS only works if the bicycle is prepared for it. However, a bike not prepared for this will work normally with a battery with smart BMS. Conversely, this is usually not the case. The indication of the battery on the display will not work or not work properly which may also cause the bicycle to not work or not work properly.

How do I recognize a battery with smart BMS?
This battery is available with both standard and smart BMS. Smart BMS can be recognized by the fact that all battery terminals have contacts versus only 3 with standard BMS (as shown above). Sometimes the battery also has the blue sticker “smart BMS inside” but this is by no means always the case.

STEP 4: The right charger with 5-pin round, plastic plug
Can I use my current charger for this battery? In the majority of cases, the old charger works without problems, provided the (plastic) plug is the same. Chargers with the very similar metal plug (as used by Stella, for example) will not work, for example. In addition to the plug, the model number can be used for verification. The following model numbers basically work without problems with this battery: SSLC084V42XH or SSLC084V42M-01. The operation of other model numbers should be checked beforehand.
