Using and managing the li-ION bicycle battery

Proper battery management is critical to battery life and performance.

Principles of good battery management:Phylion XH370-13J + charger

  1. The battery remains in best condition through regular use (charging and discharging the battery). Too little use can lead to problems (imbalance between oreven defective battery cells) resulting in loss of capacity.

  2. The battery wears out through use (= charging/discharging)
as well as by age (= the chemical process in the battery cells).
  3. The battery performs best at a temperature of about 25 degrees Celsius. At this temperature, n.l., the maximum battery capacity is reached.
  4. The battery remains best conditioned at low temperature (above freezing) because that is when the chemical process of aging is slowest.
  5. When the battery is discharged, it should be charged immediately to avoid entering a deep discharge situation. With deep discharge, the battery voltage has dropped below the level at which the battery management still recognizes the connected charger. As a result, charging is then no longer possible

The1st use of the battery

First connect the charger to the battery and only then connect the charger to the mains voltage (110V-240V). The charger turns on with a click after which the red light comes on. Vice versa and a green light when the charger has stopped charging.Charging can be done either on or off the bike.

Achieve full capacity
By driving the battery partially empty 2-3 times in the beginning and then charging it for 20-24 hours, you reach the maximum capacity of the battery. It is good to repeat this procedure on average twice a year.

Extend lifespan
Preferably do not drive the battery completely empty. This promotes longevity.

Charging and using the battery

    • The battery can be charged either on the bike or indoors. Battery charger Phylion XH370 with tulip plug
    • Charge the battery regularly, but not more often than necessary. Unnecessary frequent charging means additional battery wear.
    • Regardless of usage, the battery should be charged at least once every 2 months for about 2 hours. Even when the bike/battery is not in use!
    • An (almost) empty battery should be recharged immediately to prevent damage due to deep discharge.
    • When not in use, store the battery pack preferably in a cool and dry place.Phylion XH370 LED battery status
    • Store a battery that will not be used for an extended period of time preferably at a charge level of about 50%
    • Store the battery in a dry and frost-free place
    • You can read the battery status via the display on the bike or the LED indicator lights on the battery. The last light is a red light that comes on only when the battery is low.
    • Battery capacity decreases as it gets colder. Allow for a decay of about 1% per degree measured from 25 degrees Celsius. From zero degrees Celsius, the decrease can be higher.
    • At residual capacity of 10% or less, the motor may no longer provide full support under severe conditions

Loading safety tips:
Please read the warnings below carefully. RAP is not responsible for accidents or malfunctions caused by improper use of charger and/or battery.

  • Use only the original charger for charging the battery pack
  • Do not connect the charger with wet hands or charge the battery in a humid environment
  • Do not cover the charger while charging
  • The battery can be safely used/charged at temperatures from -10 to +40 degrees Celsius
  • Avoid overheating the battery by the sun or an external heat source
  • Do not use the battery nor the charger for other purposes
  • Avoid short circuits when connecting the battery pack
  • Prevent damage to the charger or battery by dropping or otherwise
  • Do not open the battery without permission
  • Do not connect the charger to the mains voltage when not in use
  • Never leave the battery connected to the battery charger for more than 48 hours
